Increase in Water Tourism at Sihanoukville International Port

Sihanoukville, Cambodia – On the morning of December 19, 2024, the Sihanoukville International Port welcomed the Italian cruise ship AIDA STELLA, marking a notable uptick in water tourism in the region. The vessel, measuring 253.3 meters in length, 32.20 meters in width, and a depth of 7.3 meters, docked at 6:30 am for a one-day visit after departing from Vietnam.

AIDA STELLA brought aboard an impressive 2,126 tourists, comprising 1,101 women, representing 36 different nationalities. A large contingent hailed from Germany, with 1,759 German visitors among the passengers, while Switzerland and Austria contributed with 105 and 69 tourists, respectively. The ship is manned by a diverse crew of 631 members, including 129 women, from 26 different nationalities.

The arrival of AIDA STELLA reflects growing interest in Sihanoukville as a prime destination for cruise lines, showcasing its potential to attract international tourists seeking unique experiences in Cambodia. These visitors spent the day exploring the local culture, cuisine, and attractions before the ship’s departure for Thailand at 6:00 pm the same day.

Local authorities and tourism officials view this development as a promising sign of recovery and growth for the region's tourism sector, particularly in the wake of disruptions caused by the global pandemic. The increase in cruise ship arrivals not only boosts the local economy but also enhances Sihanoukville’s reputation as a vibrant, accessible port of call for travelers from around the world.

As water tourism continues to rise, stakeholders are optimistic about Sihanoukville's prospects, and further efforts will be made to improve facilities and services for future visitors. The ongoing success of such maritime tourism ventures is essential for the broader growth of Cambodia’s tourism industry.
